Join Philly Thrive and the United South/Southwest Coalition for Healthy Communities for a series of virtual and in-person workshops about direct action as a tactic for environmental justice!

Decisions affecting people's lives are being made without us & against our best interests over and over. In times like these throughout history people have turned to nonviolent direct action: using people power to disrupt injustices taking place directly, uplifting clear demands to decision-makers and the public without waiting for anyone else to take action on our behalf.

This series of trainings has two goals: (1) To build participants' skills in organizing protests no matter the issue or campaign. (2) To prepare residents specifically for actions planned to demand environmental justice during the redevelopment of the former PES oil refinery. Whether you're organizing for affordable housing, against mass incarceration, or for protection of community green space, come deepen your understanding of why direct action works, role play action scenarios, and explore ideas for action. At the trainings you'll also learn more about the refinery redevelopment campaign and others being organized across the city that you can join in action!
